New Walney to Wear Cycle Route
A challenge
Cyclists can enjoy a 150-mile challenge route linking the Irish Sea and the North Sea with the Walney to Wear (W2W) cycle route.
Forming part of the award-winning National Cycle Network, it runs from Walney Island, just outside Barrow-in-Furness, to the River Wear at Sunderland. It is Regional Route 20 of the National Cycle Network and is mainly on country lanes and quiet roads, joined up with sections of cycle path, forest road and off-road track.
Superb scenery
The route roughly breaks down into the following parts;
The highlight of the route of course is the fact that it passes straight through Hamsterley Forest so the Visitor Centre, Grove link route will come into its own.
